A clump of galactic cores stretching across four billion light
years was discovered by Roger Clowes, lead author of the University of
Central Lancashire in England.
Clowes said, "While it is difficult to fathom the scale of this
LQG (large quasar group), we can say quite definitely it is the largest
structure ever seen in the universe. This is hugely exciting.."
At its widest point, the LQC spans about 4 billion light-years
and consists of 73 quasars. The distance between the Milky Way galaxy is
about 100,000 light-years and the distance between Andromeda, our
nearest neighbor, is about 2.5 million miles.
